St Tropez, beaches and villages of Provence

During their next stay on the French Riviera and especially in the Var department, one should go to the famous St Tropez town to discover the bay but also Ramatuelle and Gassin villages. There, one will enjoy Pampelonne beaches and the Sentier du Littoral (coastal path). If liking South wines, the Wine Route (Route des Vins) will be a real pleasure as this is the possibility to savour amazing wines. Bay of St Tropez beaches

If coming to St Tropez during summer, go to the Pampelonne beaches located in the South of the town. Pampelonne beaches and Tahiti beach lie on 6 km of sand. To go to these beaches, small roads access car parks in the pine forest just behind the beaches. During high season,tourists need to be careful because there is a lot of traffic so follow towns instructions. Pampelonne beaches are situated in Ramatuelle. Moreover, one will find a private beach with mattress, restaurants and numerous water activities. There are approximately 26 private places which are full-comfort in Pampelonne amazing setting. These beaches are full of jet setters thanks to two private beaches and restaurants: Tahiti and Club 55 (famous since the 1940s and 50s).

Towns and villages in the bay of St Tropez

In the bay of St Tropez, is Ramatuelle which is a gorgeous village located on a hill full of vineyards. This village was built with many narrow streets and picturesque houses. In summer, there are several festivals in Ramatuelle as the jazz festival taking place during the third week of August, the classical music festival in July or the theatre festival from the end of July until the middle of August. Another village to visit is Gassin because it is still typical of Provence with numerous alleyways. Not far from Gassin, one can find the Moulins de Paillas (Paillas Mills). During this excursion, tourists will have a wonderful view on the Mediterranean sea, Ste Maxime, the Esterel and the Maures massifs.

Concerning St Tropez, tourists should be careful in summer as there are so many people there. From jet setters to walkers, everyone will be on the harbour where tourists enjoy the Tropézienne (local pie) or ice cream next to yachts or fishing boats. Visitors can also go to Place des Lices (Lices square) especially on Tuesday or Saturday for the market. At night, one can go dancing at Papagayo, Les caves du Roy or le Bal which are famous in St Tropez. Before, or the ones who do not want to dance should have a drink at the exclusive Sénéquier on the harbour.

For those prefering cultural visits, the citadel or the Annonciade – St Tropez museum situated in a pretty chapel – are just waiting for you! There, works of artists as Braque, Signac, Matisse or Dufy are exhibited. Then, walk in the La Ponche area or visit the butterfly museum – children will love that!

Sentier du Littoral (Coastal Path)

This path is 42km long and will be enjoyed by walkers. It starts in St Tropez and stop around Cavalaire beaches. Here are some parts of the path that should be discovered.

From Saint-Tropez to Cap Pinet

From the Tour du Portalet (Portalet tower) at the West of St Tropez walk on the marked path long of 11 kilometres. There, one will discover beaches, inlets, a rich vegetation and historical vestiges.

From Cap Pinet to Cap Camarat

After skirting around Cap Pinet, walkers will be on Tahiti beach. Then, 2 hours and 15 minutes are needed to walk through a maritime setting. At the end of the excursion, is Cap Camarat – built in 1830 – where there is a breathtaking panorama.

From Cap Camarat to Cap Taillat

2 hours are needed for this excursion. Hikers will walk on the Estalet beach and coves where sunbathing is very pleasant.

From Cap Taillat to Cap Lardier

This excursion is quite short so walking to Cap Lardier through the bay of Briande will not take too much time. Then, there is the possibility to continue walking to reach the Mas de Gigaro. Nevertheless, this excursion is longer and one should have an IGN map.

Search an accommodation in St Tropez or around the town

If intending to go to St Tropez several times, then search for a holiday rental in St Tropez or around the town. One have the possibility to rent an apartment in St- Tropez, a villa in St Tropez too, but tourists can also rent a self-catering cottage in Ramatuelle, in Gassin or nearby these places. Numerous owners directly rent their accommodation to tenders in the Var department near St Tropez or Ste Maxime. One should book the accommodation in St Tropez or Ramatuelle as soon as possible as the high season brings many potential tenants. If wanting to avoid jet setters and crowd, then tourists should come to St Tropez at the end of summer or at the beginning of autumn. During this period, light is wonderful and accommodations for holidays in St Tropez are cheaper.
